We build in pressure-treated lumber, composite decking (Trex, TimberTech), and hardwoods like Ipe depending on your budget and how much maintenance you want to do long-term. Pressure-treated is cost-effective and holds up well when properly sealed and maintained. Composite is the low-maintenance choice — it won't rot, splinter, or need annual staining, and modern composite profiles have come a long way in terms of appearance. Ipe and other hardwoods are the premium option, dense enough to resist moisture and insects naturally and beautiful enough to last generations when properly finished. We'll give you the honest trade-offs on each at your estimate.
